Abstraction
In February 2019, South Sulawesi experienced a deflation of 0.19 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 136.36. Of the 5 CPI cities in South Sulawesi, all cities (Bulukumba, Watampone, Palopo, Parepare and Makassar) experienced deflation. The highest deflation occurred in Parepare City at 0.78 percent with an CPI value of 129.22 while the lowest deflation occurred in Makassar City by 0.11 percent with CPI of 137.29.
This deflation in South Sulawesi in February 2019 was caused by falling prices in the two expenditure groups as indicated by the decline in the consumer price index (CPI) in the foodstuffs group (1.00%); and the transportation, communication and financial services group (0.43%); Meanwhile, the other five expenditure groups experienced an increase in prices, processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco (0.49%); housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group (0.26%); clothing group (0.11%); education, recreation and sports group (0.09%); and health groups (0.03%).
The inflation rate for the calendar year (January-February 2019) in South Sulawesi is 0.35 percent and the year on year inflation rate (February 2019 against February 2018) is 2.79 percent.
